Bariloche to Villaricca. 16/03 - 22/03 : B-e-a-utiful!!

After one night of refueling in Bariloche, we headed north to Los Arrayanes National Park, over 50km in 2 hours (down south 50km could take all day). We ended the day camping on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi just in time to catch the sunset...

At the campsite we were caught by Timo and Johannes, whose path we´d been crossing for the previous few days. They happened to be doing a very similar trip to us, no more leisurely starts for us!!

The next few days were some of the best cycling we´d done all trip.
Good roads,

good campsites

and stunning scenery.

There was even time for non-cycling fun

Before another cross border ferry, this one a lot easier.

Trevelin to Baraloche. 13/03 - 16/03 : Road to Recovery

Better at last and back on the road.. of sorts. 25km from Trevelin to Esquel was hard work!

At Esquel we were going to get the old Patagonian Express to El Bolson, but in typical South American style it only goes when they want to, so we made our own way there.

El Bolson, "a magical setting which attracted thousands of hippies to create an ideological community..." where we had our stove stolen. F**king hippies.

2 days of easy cycling and we were in Bariloche passing a couple of significant milestones.

Futaleufu to Trevelin. 6/03 - 11/03 : Sick

=

5 days of D and V.

Cycling, FAIL.
Eating, FAIL.
Rafting, FAIL.

Only one new experience, a Chilean hospital and a needle in the ass for Will.
(at least he claims it´s the first time he´s had a prick in his ass)

Coihaique to Futaleufu 27/02 - 06/03 : End of the Southern Highway

After a rest day (actually 3) we reluctantly left Los Salamandras Hostel an hit the road. Only 420km to go, what would be in store for us this time?

Sun, enjoyable roads, no mechanical issues and fantastic camp grounds. You could almost call it a holiday!

Until...

Things are never easy

and just to add to the mix... rain.
24 hours in a bus stop!

Not all was bad though, a bit of surprise pavement offers relief for the soul and ass

And finally, a finish to the Southern Highway.
Here endeth the Caraterra Austral.
